Confusing signboard at Chennai airport leave travellers perplexed

Speed News Desk | Updated on: 31 October 2019, 12:50 IST

A signboard at the Chennai International Airport has held attention of many, including actress Shabana Azmi. Earlier, the actress took to her official Instagram account to post an old image of the hilarious Airport Authority of India billboard, its message distinctly missed what it wanted to convey.

"Farsh par khaana sakht mana hai," reads the signboard in Hindi, which translates to "Eating on the floor is strictly prohibited."

While the request sounds completely resonable, the english translation of this message doesn’t quite get it right. It reads, "Eating carpet is strictly prohibited."

Really? Wrote actress Shabana Azmi, while posting the image, which was taken in 2015.

After the picture was shared online, the actresses’ post has cumulated over 1,700 likes and numerous comments.

"Amaze," wrote actress Swara Bhaskar, adding laughing face emojis to her comment.

"Carpet might be too chewy to eat," said one commenter. "ROFL eating your words has a new meaning," another added.

A few even tried to correct the translation, pointing out that the word ‘on’ is missing. "Eating ON carpet. ON missing," wrote one Instagram user.

As per the UPI, the signboard was photographed in 2015 by businessman Justin Ross Lee, who had posted it on facebook to the amusement of many.
