At least eleven people and thousands affected in the gas leakage in the port city of Visakhapatnam, or Vizag, in Andhra Pradesh on Thursday.

It’s another chaos in the part of the country amid coronavirus outbreak across the country which has affected humans badly. It was a chemical leak from LG Polymers. The leaked gas that killed people is called styrene gas.

All you need to know about Styrene Gas:

It is a popular gas used in the plastics engineering industry. Of course, it is poisonous and also inflammable.

How it affected humans?


When the gas leaks and inhales by humans, it directly attacks the central nervous system of humans. It also causes damage to the nostrils, eyes, skin, and throat. It is a known carcinogen.

Symptoms:

A person who inhaled the poisonous gas will feel the immediate symptoms like nausea and dizziness. Hence, a person should immediately visit the hospital. Because delay in medical assistance could cause death.

Styrene gas also affects the lungs and also reduces the oxygen inhaling capacity, which may lead to suffocation among patients.

Utilization:

The gas is mostly used in the production of polystyrene plastics, rubber, latex, resins, automobile parts, fiberglass, toys, polishes, etc.

Long term side-effect when in a contract:

If a person inhales the gas then he or she may face reproductive and developmental problems. It can also cause cancers of blood and skin.

Where does it find?

Styrene gas is also found in a natural environment but doesn’t harm. It also found in edible things like fruits, vegetables, meat, coffee beans, and peanuts.
