A shocking incident was reported from Mumbai’s Sewri where a 34-year-old lady was brutally assaulted by a couple and family after she objected them from getting intimate in public. The incident took place on 2nd May, Saturday around 8 pm when the woman identified as Mumtaaz was returning home after distributing food to the migrant labourers.

While returning home she saw a 20-year-old girl and 22-year-old boy were getting intimate in public. Since Mumtaaz knew the girl as she lives in her area so she approached the lovers and stopped them from getting intimate in public. However, this didn’t go down well with the couple and the girl started abusing Mumtaaz.

On seeing this when she abused the girl in return, the boy grabbed her by the neck and started beating her mercilessly. The girl’s younger brother, mother and aunt who were nearby, saw the incident and they also joined the boy in beating her up.

The local who was strolling nearby heard her cry and rushed to help her and stopped them from assaulting her. They immediately took her to JJ Hospital after getting her injuries treated she called her husband and narrated the ordeal. Her husband then suggested her to approach the police and inform them about the incident.

The victim then approached the police and filed an FIR against the 5 accuse after narrating the incident. The police have booked them under Section 141 (Unlawful Assembly), Section 143 (Punishment), Section 149 (Every member of unlawful assembly guilty of offence committed in prosecution of common object), Section 323 (Voluntarily causing hurt) and Section 504 (Intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace) of IPC.

Senior Inspector Gajanan Kurhade of Sewri police station told Indian Express that since they are busy with the Coronavirus, so they have just served them notices and have released the accused after a few hours. However, they are investigating the matter and we will soon arrest them.
