The film is mainly targeted towards the multiplex audience as the genre won't find any takers in single screens and mass centres. The movie will break even for distributors at all India collections close to Rs 65 crore and anything above that will be surplus.
With positive word of mouth and the presence of Shah Rukh Khan, going past the Rs 65 crore mark should not be an uphill task for this slice-of-life film. The makers are looking to sell the overseas distribution rights as well. Fox Star Studios and Reliance are top contenders to bag the rights. However, the final deal is yet to be locked.
Dharma Productions and Red Chillies Entertainment have already sold the music rights to Sony Music for a respectable amount. The satellite rights of Dear Zindagi are with the two producers and they are still negotiating with a few television channels about the final pay cheque.
Given the non-theatrical revenue and the moderate budget, the producers are already in the 'safe zone'. However, it will be interesting to see if the Indian as well as overseas distributors manage to recover their investment.
Directed by Gauri Shinde, Dear Zindagi releases on 25 November, 2016.
