Special 26 is one of Akshay Kumar's most underrated films till date. The film, which was inspired by the 1987 opera house heist carried out by con artists posing as CBI officers on an income tax raid, recorded moderate success at the Box Office.
However, Akshay Kumar won both critical and commercial acclaim for his performance in the film. Four years after the release of Special 26, Akshay Kumar and Neeraj Pandey are said to be keen to make a sequel.
According to reports, Neeraj Pandey and his team of writers have already begun researching on robberies and cons that have taken place in the last 60 years. The sequel is expected to follow the Special 26 formula of fictionalising a true crime story.
The film will reportedly also star Anupam Kher, Jimmy Shergill and Rajesh Sharma.
Neeraj Pandey is currently busy shooting for MS Dhoni: The Untold Story with Sushant Singh Rajput. The director is also working on an idea for a sequel to Baby.
