Last year, Akshay Kumar came up with a film like Baby, which garnered quite a bit of critical acclaim and managed to trend reasonably well at the Box-Office. Despite a slow start, the collections managed to gather momentum due to the positive word of mouth.

In an interview for the promotions of Airlift, Akshay Kumar, speaking about the kind of cinema Indian's love to watch and explaining the mechanism of films that do wonders at the Box-Office said,

"A film like Rowdy Rathore was about a police officer doing the right thing for a village and all those stuff and there is a film like Baby. I would personally consider Baby to be a much better film than Rowdy Rathore but a Rowdy Rathore collects 150 crore and Baby collects 90 crore (sic).

"So we know that Baby is a better film but we can't help as audience is the real king. Baby not doing as good as Rowdy Rathore does not mean that we should stop trying. One day will come when films like Baby and Airlift will earn more than Rowdy Rathore. People will start asking us to give content based films."
