It didn't turn out to be a good day for India on Day 5 of the 2015 US Open, as Leander Paes and Sania Mirza both suffered defeats in their respective matches at Flushing Meadows.

Top seeded Sania and Bruno Soares, who were defending the title, suffered a shocking 3-6, 3-6 defeat to Czech-Polish duo of Andrea Hlavackova and Lukasz Kubot in the opening round of the mixed doubles event that lasted 65 minutes.

In the men's doubles event, Leander Paes and his Spanish partner Fernando Verdasco lost their second round match 5-7, 6-4, 3-6 against unseeded American pair of Steve Johnson and Sam Querrey.

On Saturday, India's Rohan Bopanna is slotted to play his 2nd round doubles tie with partner Floin Mergea against the Polish-Mexican pair of Mariusz Fyrstenberg and Santiago Gonzalez.

Top seeds Sania Mirza and Martina Hingis, meanwhile, will take on Timea Bacsinszky and Chia-jung Chuang in the women's doubles 2nd round.
