Karolina Pliskova of Czech Republic has replaced Angelique Kerber at the number one spot in the latest WTA rankings released on Monday.

Pliskova, who has never won a Grand Slam, jumped from third place to the top after world number two Simona Halep lost in the Wimbledon quarter-finals while Kerber fell in the fourth round, reports Sport24.

Kerber, defeated by Wimbledon champion Garbine Muguruza, drops to third spot after spending 34 non-consecutive weeks in the position.

The 25-year-old Czech, who reached the US Open final last year, achieves the top ranking without ever having lifted one of the four majors in tennis.

Pliskova becomes the first player representing the Czech Republic to achieve this historic milestone since the computer rankings were introduced in 1975, and would be the 23rd woman overall to hold the No.1 ranking.

Meanwhile, seven-time Grand Slam champion Venus Williams' run to the Wimbledon final puts her back into the top 10, while other significant movers included Ana Konjuh, up seven to No.22, and Shuai Peng, also up seven, to No.30.
