After the successful launch of 'Amma Mineral Water', 'Amma Canteens' and 'Amma Pharmacies', the Tamil Nadu government has started distributing 'Amma Mobile Phones' to retain the brand, directly associated with Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa.

In latest event, collectors of various districts distributed the computerised mobile phone specially designed for the self-help group (SHG) comprising 20,000 women trainers of the state. The Amma Mobile phone is loaded with special Tamil apps to help the SHG workers. The SHG was created by the Jayalalithaa government in 1991 for empowerment of women in the state.

The Jayalalithaa-led TN government will spend over Rs 15 crore in the first phase of the scheme.

According to reports, the government has ordered the district administrations to organised a two-day training programme for people, where they'll be given a demo as well as other information about the Amma Mobile.

The two-day programme will also guide the SHG trainers about the impotence and use of the special Tamil applications of the phone.
