Indian shuttler P V Sindhu pulled off a major upset at the ongoing Denmark Open in Odense on Saturday, 17 October, when she defeated world champion Carolina Marin in the semi-final to book a final date with Li Xuerui of China.
Sindhu started off strongly and took the first game in convincing fashion, by a scoreline of 21-15. In a closely fought second game, however, Marin levelled up proceedings by winning it 21-18. Sindhu came back into the match and won the third 21-17 to proceed to the final.
In the other semi-final, 2012 Olympics gold medalist Li Xuerui defeated seventh seed Sung Ji Hyun of South Korea 21-8, 20-22, 21-10 in 56 minutes to make it to the final.
