Pahlaj Nihalani, the current Indian Censor Board chief, might be facing questions regarding his possible sacking from the board, but the ministry seems unfazed. According to a news report in the Economic Times, the Information & Broadcasting Ministry has denied that there is a possibility of Nihalani being sacked.
However, it has admitted to receiving complaints regarding Nihalani's work approach from other members of the board. According to the official data provided by the Censor Board in the same report, here's an entire roundup of CBFC's workings since Nihalani started leading the committee. Check out the number game:
- He was awarded the office of the Central Board Of Film Certification on 19 January, 2015.
- Ever since he became the head of CBFC, he has been targeted for promoting Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
- Off late, he has been facing public ire for attaching his music video 'Mera Desh Hai Mahaan' with the theatrical prints of Salman Khan's Prem Ratan Dhan Payo. The video ran during the interval of the film in many theatres to clueless audiences.
films were cleared by the board at the examining stage itself.
- The rest 50 were sent to the examining committee for review.
- This included James Bond's 24th film Spectre, starring Daniel Craig, Monica Belucci and Lea Seydoux.
is the number of the films that Nihalani has watched himself.
- It should be noted that the recently released Bond film in India, Spectre, is not included in the list of films watched by Nihalani.
- While talking to a news channel, the chief himself revealed that he didn't watch even a single scene from Spectre and yet he decided to cut the kissing scenes in the film by as much as 50 per cent (20 seconds).
out of those 50 films were further sent to the FCAT (Film Certification Appellate Tribunal)
- FCAT didn't pass even one film out of the four.
- Justifying their workings, the board has said that the number of the films passed under the tenure of Nihalani is same as the number of the films passed by the UPA appointed committee.
- It would be interesting to know that CBFC functions as according to the rules and regulations, laid down in the 1952 Cinematograph Act. And it's been months now that the board has been working out ways to bring amendments in the act.
