RBI governor Urjit Patel steps down from the post after rift with the BJP, cites personal reasons

Reserve Bank of India governor Urjit Patel has resigned amid the rumors of his rift with the BJP and ahead of the Assembly election result.

The banks board meeting was successful earlier, but the RBI governor Urjit Patel has now resigned as the news of his resignation was already doing rounds in the corridors of Delhi.


Urjit Patel has said that “On account of personal reasons, I have decided to step down from my current position (RBI Governor) effective immediately. It has been my privilege and honour to serve in the Reserve Bank of India in various capacities over the years.”

Patel added that “Support & hard work of RBI staff, officers & management has been proximate driver of Bank’s considerable accomplishments in recent years. I take this opportunity to express gratitude to my colleagues&Directors of RBI Central Board & wish them all the best for future.”
