At least 15 people were killed after a private bus fell into Cauvery canal in Karnataka's Mandya district on Saturday. Authorities fear the number of people who have died could be higher over the number of passengers the bus was carrying so far. Among the dead are women and a child.

The accident took place in Mandya, 105 km from Bengaluru.

"25 people have died. I believe the driver was not driving properly, I will find out, take some more inputs," said Deputy Karnataka CM G Parameshwara.

The visuals from the site of the accident shared by news agency ANI show the bus completely submerged in the canal. The locals using roped to try and pull the bus out from the water body in the middle of what appears to be a field.

Top police officials have reached the spot and relief, rescue work was underway. The bus was submerged in water. The bodies of the victims were pulled out and laid out on the ground.
