J&K: Cop adorned with President's medal for bravery caught with terrorists travelling to Delhi

A Jammu and Kashmir cop adorned with the President’s medal for bravery was laid hold of on Saturday with two terrorist, taking at trip in a vehicle on the Srinagar-Jammu Highway. The terrorists were en route Delhi, as per police sources.

Deputy Superintendent of Police, Davinder Singh stationed at the Srinagar International airport was nabbed at Wanpoh in the Kulgam district along with Hizbul Mujahideen terrorist Naveed Babu. Babu is held responsible for being involved in the killing of 11 workers who were non local including truck driver and labourers in south Kashmir last year.


The string of killings were executed to force non-locals out of the valley and target Kashmir’s apple industry after the abrogation Article 370 by the central government in August.

Police sources stated that they were keeping tabs on Naveed Babu’s activities and his whereabouts was traced after he made a phone call to his brother.

The police pounced on a vehicle in which Hizbul terrorist, who is also a former Special Police Official, his associate Asif and DSP Devinder Singh were journeying at Wanpoh.

Davinder Singh was given the President's Police Medal for Gallantry on August 15 last year.

Following the arrest and interrogation of Davinder Singh and Naveed Babu, the police executed raids in multiple areas in Srinagar and South Kashmir and recovered a huge amassment of arms and ammunition stored by Singh and other terrorists.

At Singh’s residence in Badami Bagh Cantonment in Srinagar, the police found an AK-47 rifle and two pistols. Another AK rifle and a pistol were found based on Babu’s admission.

Police sources stated probes are taking place to figure out why the terrorists were heading to Delhi with the help of a police officer.

Sources say Davinder Singh was absent from duty today and had applied for four days leave from tomorrow.

Devender Singh came into the limelight after a letter written by Afzal Guru, claimed that officer had asked him to accompany a parliament attack accused to Delhi and organize his stay in the national capital.
