'I was also an accidental Prime Minister,' say JD(S) chief HD Deve Gowda amid controversy over film

Amid the controversy over the film ‘The Accidental Prime Minister,’ former PM and chief of Janta Dal Secular H D Deve Gowda has claimed that h was also an accidental prime minister.

The film which is based on the account of Sanjaya Baru, the media advisor of former PM Manmohan Singh, who had written a book titled ‘The Accidental Prime Minister,’ and released it in April 2014 and now the movie is getting released just ahead of the Lok Sabha election of 2019.


JD(S) supremo, who is now 85-year-old said, “Actually I don't know, why that was allowed...I think it started three or four months ago. I don't know who has permitted, why? honestly, I have not gone through this so called Accidental Prime Minister. I'm also (an) Accidental Prime Minister.”

In the 1996 general election, no party got the majority and a United Front was made by stitching a non-BJP alliance and a non-Congress conglomerate and with the support of the Congress party from outside, a government was made after H D Deve Gowda came out to become the prime minister, although his party had won a mere 7 seats.

The Accidental Prime Minister’ will release on January 11 and the lead role is being played by Anupam Kher, who is playing Dr. Manmohan Singh and Akshay Khanna is playing Sanjaya Baru.

Although, Gowda served at the post of prime minister from June 1 1996 to April 21 1997 but had to step down after the Congress party withdrew its support from the government.
