Organic paint made from cow dung is used for painting the walls in government buildings and schools in Chhattisgarh’s Raipur. The initiative is being started under the state government’s ‘Godhan Nyay Scheme’ which aims to bring prosperity to rural areas by benefiting farmers.

Organic paint is produced with cow dung as the main raw ingredient, making it chemical-free in contrast to other paints on the market.

The initiative, according to Raipur District Magistrate, is bringing prosperity to rural areas.

“Under 'Godhan Nyay Yojana' this initiative was started. It's bringing prosperity to rural areas. This paint is being used in govt buildings & schools,” said the Raipur DM.

Earlier, thousands of litres of paint that also contains hazardous chemicals were used to paint government buildings and schools. However, thanks to this project, a new organic choice has developed that will also inspire the private sector. Additionally, this programme will persuade individuals to paint their homes with this chemical-free, organic paint.

Godhan Nyay Yojana

Under the Godhan Nyay Yojana, cow dung is being procured by state from farmers at the rate of Rs.2 per kg. Then the state government uses cow dung to make several products such as vermi-compost, super compost, and super compost plus, etc.

Women groups from rural areas are churning profit by making and selling cow cast, diyas, incense sticks, idols and other materials.

Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel-led Chhattisgarh government is benefiting the farmers os the state by utilizing the collected cow dung for making energy, organic paint, composts and other products.

In August 2020, Chhattisgarh government also got praise from Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He said that the scheme is in the interest of farmers as vermi-compost prepared from cow dung helps in increasing the productivity of the field.
