The Election Commission has acted upon a complaint against Mumbai Congress chief Milind Deora for allegedly giving false statements and promoting enmity between classes in connection with elections and registered an FIR against the leader.

Deora is said to have accused the Shiv Sena for hurting the religious sentiments of the Jain community and urged the voters to teach the Sena a lesson by not voting for them in the Lok Sabha elections, Deora was recently made the in-charge of the Congres in Mumbai.

The Shiv Sena insulted the Jain community a few years ago when its activists cooked meat outside your temples during Paryushan. Remember this when you go out to cast your votes,” said Deora in an event in Mumbai.

Now, the Shiv Sena which has tied up with the BJP in the General election has refuted all the allegations made by the Mumbai Congress chief and Sena leader Arvind Sawant told NDTV that “Shiv Sena has never done such a thing, and will never do it. This is all politics. Now I want to ask him [Deora] whom will you ask votes from in Byculla, Mumbadevi, Kalbadevi?”

The FIR has been registered against Milind Deora under section 171 of IPC ( giving false statements for elections) and section 125 of the presentation of people's act ( promoting enmity between classes in connection with elections).

Maharashtra will be polling in all seven phases and the constituency of Milind Deora, which is South Mumbai will be up for polls on April 29, and the seat is held by Sawant, who had defeated Deora in the 2014 Lok Sabha Election.
