The government on Saturday stated that it will deal with India’s growing spread of the new coronavirus, Covid-19, as a notified disaster for the providing purpose of assistance under the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF).

It listed assistance norms in a release brought out on Saturday, and stated that Rs 4 lakh would be given to the families of victims, "including those involved in relief operations or associated in response activities, subject to certification regarding the cause of death from the appropriate authority."

India has so far reported more than 80 cases on coronavirus, which first surfaced in China’s Wuhan but has spread extensively to be considered a pandemic.
