Citizenship Bill will be written in golden letters: PM Modi

The Citizenship Bill will be written in golden letters for people who are persecuted on basis of religion said Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the BJP Parliamentary party meeting in the Parliament library today.

"Opposition is speaking the language of Pakistan on the Citizenship Bill," sources quoted PM Modi saying at the BJP meet.



This apart, the PM also asked the BJP parliamentarians to take suggestions of farmers, traders and businessmen in their respective constituencies and give that feedback to Finance Minister.

On the other hand, Parliamentary Affairs Minister, Prahlad Joshi after BJP parliamentary party meeting informed that the Citizenship Amendment Bill will be tabled in Rajya Sabha at 12 pm today, and it will be passed in the house with a comfortable majority.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Railways Minister Piyush Goyal, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pralhad
Joshi, IT and Law Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and Women and Child Development Minister Smriti Irani were among the top BJP leaders who attended the parliamentary meeting.

Other members including Kirron Kher, Tejasvi Surya, Jitendra Singh, Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore, Sakshi Maharaj, GVL Narasimha Rao, Roopa Ganguly and Ravi Kishan also participated in the meet.

Union Ministers Debashree Chaudhuri, Arjun Ram Meghwal, Kiren Rijiju, Giriraj Singh, Hardeep Singh Puri, Jitendra Singh, and Santosh Gangwar were present in the meeting.

While the BJP is confident of getting the Bill passed in Rajya Sabha as well, the numbers game could prove to be tough.

The effective strength of the Rajya Sabha is 238. The NDA's current strength is 105 in the House, including 83 members of the BJP, six of Janata Dal (U), three of Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD), one each from LJP and RPI(A) and 11 nominated MPs.


Union Home Minister Amit Shah will table the Citizenship Bill in the Rajya Sabha today. The bill, which was passed the Lok Sabha on Monday passed the CAB, seeks to provide Indian citizenship to non-Muslim refugees coming from Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan after facing religious persecution.

The Bill was passed in the Lok Sabha with 311 members favouring it and 80 votings against it, will now be tabled in the Rajya Sabha for its nod.
