Raising serious question on the Election Commission independence, Congress asks the election body over changing the time of the press conference to announce the dates for the assembly polls in the four states, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh and Mizoram.

The Election Commission on Saturday said it will declare the polling dates at 12:30 pm. However, after an hour, the timing of the announcement was shifted to 3 in the afternoon. Well, the election body says the change in the time was made for the convenience of media persons so that they can reach at the Election Commission office in time.

Pointing out the changes in the time, Congress alleged that the decision to delay the announcement of the election dates was made due to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's rally in Ajmer in BJP-ruled Rajasthan at 1 pm, where Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje's state-wide yatra ahead of the polls will conclude.

"3 Facts- Draw your own conclusions. 1. ECI announces a PC at 12.30 today to announce election dates to the 5 states. 2. PM Modi is addressing a rally in Ajmer, Rajasthan at 1 PM today. 3. ECI suddenly changes the time of announcement and PC to 3 PM. Independence of ECI?" tweeted Congress spokesperson Randeep Surjewala.

Although, at the same time Congress chief Rahul Gandhi is in Morena MP and also address a public gathering in Jabalpur.

The upcoming Assembly elections in four states are scheduled to take place by the end of the year, whick dates are to be announced today.
