AMU Jinnah row: After Jinnah 'missing' portrait, AMU founder Sir Syed Ahmed Khan's portrait removed; students scuffle with journalists

The controversy over the missing portrait of a Pakistan founder Muhammed Ali Jinnah from the students union hall of Aligarh Muslim University had led massive protests in the university and town. Now, after Jinnah portrait, a dispute over another picture hit Aligarh. A portrait of AMU founder Sir Syed Ahmed Khan has been removed in PWD's guest house in Aligarh.

However, the reason behind the removal of the Syed's portrait has not been cleared. In the meantime, a tussle of students with journalists is also being reported in Aligarh.

According to local media reports, a group of students protesting has beaten the photographer. In another report, there is also a matter of misbehaviour of students with other journalists is reported. There is still no protest in the university. Meanwhile, the student union is stuck on the question of not removing Jinnah's picture.

What is the matter of Sir Syed's portrait removal?

According to a local report, the picture of Sir Syed was removed from the guest house of the PWD's on Wednesday. From the security staff to the PWD officials no one has it information and removal reason. Interestingly, along with Sir Syed, there were pictures of Mahatma Gandhi, Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar, Lal Bahadur Shastri etc, the rest still exist on the wall. But Sir Syed's picture has been suddenly disappeared.

The picture has been removed on the order of a political leader. The leader also expressed resentment if there was no picture of PM Modi and CM Yogi, says report.

Who is Sir Syed Ahmed Khan:

Sir Syed Ahmed Khan was a teacher and leader. He is considered to be the beginner of modern education of the Muslims of India. He founded the Mohammedan Anglo-Oriental College, which later became Aligarh Muslim University.

The violence in and out of the university has triggered several controversies. The clashes between cops and students on Thursday has left several injured. The internet services have been suspended till Saturday midnight and section 144 has been imposed in the town.
