
On 13 September, Shivpal Yadav was appointed as the new president of the Samajwadi Party, replacing UP Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav as party head.
This comes within hours of Akhilesh Yadav having replaced Deepak Singhal, a close aide of Shivpal Yadav, with Rahul Prasad Bhatnagar as Uttar Pradesh's new Chief Secretary.

On 12 September, Akhilesh Yadav dismissed two other ministers - Mining Minister Gayatri Prajapati and Panchayati Raj Minister Raj Kishor Singh - from the cabinet, reportedly over charges of corruption.
