On 25 May, the Bihar police arrested five people in connection with the murder of journalist Rajdeo Ranjan. Reports suggest that the five apprehended have criminal records.
Chief Minister Nitish Kumar had condemned the act, and had promised that the guilty will be brought to justice.
Ranjan, a journalist with Hindi daily Hindustan, was shot dead near the Siwan railway station, on 15 May.
Two bullets were fired at the daily's bureau chief, one on his head and the other on his neck. He was shifted to a hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead.
According to the police, five motorcycle-borne criminals were waiting for Ranjan, who was walking down the road to his home, and shot him twice at point blank range.
