
Kanpur: A devastating fire broke out in a six-storey building in Chaman Ganj, Kanpur, on the night of May 4, trapping several residents inside. Five individuals, including a man named Danish, his wife, and their three children, were unable to escape in time and later succumbed to their injuries.
Officials confirm loss of lives
Assistant Commissioner of Police Tej Bahadur Singh confirmed the casualties. “A total of five people have lost their lives in the fire incident, including Danish, his wife and three children. The fire has been controlled,” he said.
Initial rescue raised hopes
Earlier, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police Rajesh Srivastava stated that the five victims were rescued and taken to hospital. However, he expressed doubt over their chances of survival. “There is very little chance of their survival. The search operation is ongoing,” he had said at the time.
Suspected cause: short circuit
A family member of the victims told ANI that the fire is believed to have been caused by a short circuit. “Fire broke out due to a short circuit in the building. Five people, including three children, have died,” the relative said. The incident reportedly occurred between 8.30 and 8.45 pm.
Investigation underway
While the fire has been brought under control, authorities have not yet officially confirmed the cause. An investigation is ongoing to determine the exact reason for the blaze.
