A 25-year-old woman was allegedly attacked with acid by her husband and in-laws for dowry in the Kotwali area in Sambhal, police said on 22 August.

According to the complaint lodged by the woman, her father-in-law Iqbal, husband Akram along with his brother Laeeq Ahmad and sister Kesar Jahan threw acid at her during a meeting with her family members late on 21 August.

The victim left her in-laws house and moved back in with her parents after she was pressurised to give them a car and cash in dowry, Inspector Yashpal Singh Yadav said, citing the complaint.

The couple were wed around one-and-a-half-year ago.

A case has been lodged against Akram and his family members and the victim was sent for medical examination, police said.
