A group of persons, including a relative of a gram pradhan, allegedly looted cash from a theatre owner at gun point after entering the office of a cinema hall in Shamli's Kairana town, police said on 3 July.

A case has been registered against four persons, including Kamran, the brother-in-law of a gram pradhan of Bhura village. The police arrested Kamran and are on the lookout for the others who are absconding, SHO AP Bhardwaj said.

According to the complaint lodged with Kairana police station, four persons including Kamran entered the cinema theatre office of Rama Palace on 2 July and looted Rs 5,000 cash from the owner, Pradeep Mittal at gunpoint. They also allegedly beat him up.

Mittal said if the law and order situation did not improve, he would be forced to migrate.

The incident comes amid a controversy over BJP MP Hukum Singh's claim that Hindus were forced to 'migrate' from Kairana, which was affected in the 2013 riots in Muzaffarnagar surrounding areas, due to law and order issues.
