Uttar Pradesh: 8 held for holding protests during BSP leader Naseemuddin Siddiqui's Agra visit

Eight persons were arrested late last night for allegedly creating a ruckus and trying to block the passage of BSP General Secretary Naseemuddin Siddiqui who was in Agra on party work.

Siddiqui was to address party workers and draw up a plan for BSP national president Mayawati's proposed visit to the city next month.

District Magistrate Pankaj Kumar and Senior Superintendent of Police Preetinder Singh said that anticipating trouble, a large number of police officials were deployed.

The demonstrating crowd was effectively prevented from creating disturbance and blocking the road.

Members of the Kshtriya Samaj protesting against BSP leader's utterances organised the protest and held black flags during a demonstration.

Siddiqui later met the BSP activists and party leaders.

Officials said hooligans had been identified through the video footage and strict action would be taken.
