Uttar Pradesh: 6 Hindu Mahasabha activists held in Kairana

Six Akhil Bharatiya Hindu Mahasabha activists were arrested for violating prohibitory orders in Kairana village in Shamli district, Uttar Pradesh.

The incident occurred on 26 June when six activists, including Hindu Mahasabha national general secretary Puja Shagun Pandey, state president Ghanendrapal, state vice-president Sachin Sharma and Aligarh divisional president Jaivir Singh, reached Kairana village to take stock of the alleged migration of Hindus from the western part of the town, Superintendent of Police Vijay Bhushan said today.

The activists were later released on personal bonds by the sub-divisional magistrate court.

National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) had issued a notice to the government of Uttar Pradesh on 10 June over several families leaving their homes in Kairana town in Western Uttar Pradesh due to alleged fear of criminals.

While observing that the allegations made were serious in nature, the NHRC also directed the state's DIG (Investigation) on 13 June to depute a team of officers for a spot enquiry in the matter covering all the allegations made in the complaint and submit a report within two weeks.
