UP: Juvenile inmates ask for a DJ for a birthday party, create ruckus

Juveniles lodged at an observation home in Meerut created ruckus and pelted stones at police officers after the authorities failed to meet their demands for a DJ to celebrate the birthday of an inmate. 12 of the inmates also tried to escape during the commotion.

Additional police personnel have been deployed to control the situation.

The incident occurred when the agitated inmates were denied permission for a DJ. They raised slogans against the authorities, police said, adding that the inmates also beat up two observation home staff.

When police personnel intervened, the inmates started pelting stones at them. To bring the situation under control, police fired rubber bullets and tear gas shells.

During the ruckus, 12 juveniles, tried to escape from the observation home but they were later nabbed, a senior police official said.

SHO of Nauchandi police station Harsharan Sharma that 61 juveniles are currently lodged in the observation home.
