In a major blow for Bahujan Samaj Party supremo Mayawati, senior party leader Swami Prasad Maurya today resigned from the party. Maurya accused the party supremo of "selling Dr BR Ambedkar's dream".

Maurya also levelled accusations against Mayawati of selling party tickets to MLA candidates before the elections.

Addressing a press conference, Maurya said Mayawati celebrates Dr Ambedkar's birth anniversary to woo Dalit voters and to "show off". He alleged that the BSP supremo doesn't care for Dalits and she just knows how to sell party tickets.

Speaking about the 2012 UP Assembly results, Maurya said that the party didn't do well in 2012 due to this "ticket business". Maurya further alleged that BSP was expelling committed party workers to strengthen BJP.

Maurya has been a Member of the Legislative Assembly for four terms, a minister in the government of Uttar Pradesh as well as Leader of the House and Leader of Opposition. He is currently Leader of Opposition in the Sixteenth Legislative Assembly of Uttar Pradesh.
