Muzaffarnagar jail inmates upload selfie on Facebook, probe ordered

Speed News Desk | Updated on: 11 May 2016, 18:48 IST

Muzaffarnagar district of Uttar Pradesh, famous for all the wrong reasons, is once again in the limelight after a picture of five inmates from the Muzaffarnagar Jail went viral on social media.

Though the image was removed immediately after the incident came to light, the prison authorities ordered a probe into the matter.

According to Jail Superintendent Rakesh Singh, five under-trial inmates clicked a selfie (since it's five of them, we should probably refer to it as groupfie) and one of them posted the picture on Facebook.

After the picture went viral on social media, an inquiry had been ordered into the incident, Singh said.

In March 2016, 22 mobile phones and 30 SIM cards were seized from the possession of prisoners by authorities after complaints about extortion calls being made by inmates.
