In yet another blow to the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), senior party leader Brijesh Pathak on 22 August joined the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) in the presence of party president Amit Shah.

Pathak had been a Member of Parliament (MP) for two times, first in Lok Sabha and then in Rajya Sabha. Pathak was known to be a close confidante of BSP leader Satish Mishra.

Earlier, Swami Prasad Maurya, former BSP leader and the Leader of Opposition of the UP Assembly had quit the party after accusing Mayawati of selling party tickets to MLA candidates before the elections.

Similarly, senior BSP leader and former minister RK Chaudhary had left the BSP after accusing the BSP supremo of auctioning tickets ahead of the 2017 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections.
