IPL 2018: From Shikhar Dhawan to Kane Williamson, these players might take over Sunrisers Hyderabad captaincy

The last few days have been no less than a nightmare for the Australian cricketers as the illegal change they were trying to bring about in the ball during the match being played against South Africa got exposed.


As an aftermath, the series of incidents have till now seen suspension of Steve Smith as the captain of the Australian cricket team, ban for a match, Ajinkya Rahane replacing him as the captain of the Rajasthan Royals and David Warner stepping down as the captain of the Sunrisers Hyderabad after Cricket Australia has banned the two players from playing for Australia.

 

Now that David Warner has stepped down as the captain of the Sunrisers Hyderabad, there are speculations about the players are the possible contenders to the post. However, there are a few names that may succeed David Warner as the captain of the team:

 

5. Shakib-Al-Hassan

The Bangladeshi captain in all the three formats has been one of the key players in the IPL. He has picked 43 wickets in the IPL along with scoring 498 runs at a strike of more than 130.

 

4. Bhuvaneshwar Kumar

The Swing-king won the Purple Cap in the 2016 season for picking up 23 wickets which were the most. He also took five wickets in a match for Sunrisers Hyderabad against Kings XI Punjab in IPL 2017.

 

3. Wriddhiman Saha

 

Saha scored 362 runs in his last IPL at an average of 32.90 and a strike rate of 145.38. In the IPL Final against Kolkata Knight Riders, Saha became the first player to score a hundred in an IPL final when he made an unbeaten 115 runs from 55 balls, Saha hit 10 fours and 8 sixes.

 

2. Kane Williamson

 

In a total of 15 matches Kane has played in the IPL, he has scored 411 runs at a strike rate of 130. He was specifically sensational last season in which he scored 256 runs in 7 games at a strike rate of 151.

 

1. Shikhar Dhawan

 

The 'Gabbar Singh' of the Indian cricket, Shikhar Dhawan was retained by the Sunrisers Hyderabad ahead of the auctions and is expected to form a formidable opening partnership with David Warner. However, now that there are doubts about the presence of David Warner playing the IPL, the team may have to come up with other plans.
