Shocking! Skeletal of largest child sacrifice in history unearthed in Peru; spine-chilling pics inside

According to an exclusive report by National Geographic which was released on Thursday, the skeletal remains of more than 140 children and 200 baby llamas were found in Peru, country's northern coast. The remains is the example of largest sacrifice in history.

The sacrifice took place around 550 years ago in the pre-Columbian Chimu Empire, in a sacrificial site formerly known as Huanchaquito-Las Llamas, close to a UNESCO World Heritage site of Chan Chan, in the modern town of Trujillo.

The photos clicked by the National Geographic on April 22, 2011, shows more than 140 bodies which was found inside the dry sand for more than 500 years, at the Huanchaquito-Las Llamas site near Trujillo, Peru.

The children who are found in the dry sand are in age from 5 to 14, according to the report. The baby llamas were less than 18 months old.

According to the report, "Skeletal remains of both children and animals show evidence of cuts to the sternum as well as rib dislocations."

The photos how children's face  smeared with a red cinnabar-based pigment, which was just after the ceremony where their chests were cut open, most likely to remove their hearts.

As per the reports, the same scarifice took place with baby llamas.

According to National Geographic, the children were "buried facing west, out to the sea." The baby llamas were buried facing east, toward the high peaks of the Andes.

As per the report, human and animal sacrifices took place at the same time. They also found three adults found had blunt-force trauma to the head and no grave, leading scientist to believe they, too, were part of the sacrifice.

Peru's northern coast, where the children and baby llamas were found has been under excavation since 2011. The site first made headlines when 42 children and 76 llamas were discovered during an emergency dig.
