Punjab: Policeman hacks sister-in-law to death, injures brother after fight over paltry issue

In an incident reported from Chandigarh, an assistant sub-inspector, stationed in the Punjab Police headquaters-Sector 9, allegedly hacked his sister-in-law to death and injured his younger brother after an altercation with them over water bills.

According to reports, ASI, identified as Harsh Savroop and his younger brother Pramegyan lived in the same house in Ramdarbar Phase -2. Savroop and his family stayed on the ground floor while Pramgyan lived with his wife Divya and children on the first floor. The wives of the brother were sisters.


During recent months, relation between the two brothers had ruined because of the water bill. “There was a dispute over the issue of water bills between them. Yesterday, the accused did not switch on the electric motor, which triggered heated arguments between the brothers. In anger, the accused attacked the couple with a knife, stabbing them in the stomach. The couple’s son and daughter were also present in the house,” The Indian Express quoted a family member as saying.


Following the horrifying incident, the injured couple was rushed to GMCH-32, where doctors declared Divya dead. Premgyan Sagar was admitted and surgery was carried out on him. He is said to be in a serious state, reports.

Within hours of the incident, the accused cop was taken into police custody and was charged under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). According to the police, the accused, Harsh Savroop was in an inebriated state when he perpetrated the gruesome crime.

In another incident reported from Uttar Pradesh’s Bulandshahr, a 57-year-old policeman has been taken into custody for allegedly raping a married woman.

The victim alleged that the head constable Yashwant Rathore raped her when he had come to her house to attend a domestic violence complaint on 19th June.

According to Santosh Kumar, Bulandshahr SSP, the accused identified as Yashwant Rathore spent almost an hour with the victim, who recorded their conversation. In the recording, the cop is purportedly heard passing vulgar remarks.
