In a shocking incident reported from Tamil Nadu’s Dindigul district, four people were taken into police custody for murdering a 21-year-old man over his alleged love affair with a girl belonging to the family of the accused.

The victim, identified as Bharathiraja was a native of Pudupatti near Natham in Dindigul district. He had studied catering and was working at a hotel in Sirumalai.

The victim was in a relationship with a girl, identified as Parameswari, aged 20, from Mullai Nagar, Moongilpatti in Tamil Nadu. Their relationship had been going on since the last five years.

When the Parameswari's family became aware about her relationship with Bharathiraja, they decided to marry her off to someone else.

When the girl told Bharathiraja about her marriage, the latter, along with two of his friends, went to Parameswari's house to visit her on Monday.

On seeing Bharatiraja outside their house, Parameswari's parents, brother Malaichamy and relatives got enmeshed in an altercation with the 21-year-old man.

Furious, brother of the girl, identified as Malaichamy picked up a stone and started attacking Bharathiraja.

Bharathiraja, who was severely hurt during the fight, was taken to a nearby hospital. However, he died on the way to hospital. Natham police were alerted about the episode. They rushed to the crime spot, seized the body and sent it for autopsy to the Natham Government Hospital.

The father of the victim, identified as Sethurajan Bharathiraja alleged his son's killing was panned by the girl’s family. According to the victim’s father, Bharathiraja was asked to come to Natham where he was thrashed to death.

"We demand that necessary action be taken against those involved in my son's killing," said Sethurajan.

The cops have taken Parameswari's parents Rasu (63), Alakunachi (58), brothers Malaichamy (33) and Balakumar (28) into their custody and produced them before Natham Court and remanded them in custody.
