Hyderabad: Father sells one-month-old baby for Rs 70,000

In a shocking incident, a one-month-old baby was allegedly sold by his father for Rs 70,000. The case has been reported in Hyderabad.

The man identified as a pavement dweller who sold his son for rupees to a couple. However, the police on Thursday traced the child and handed it over to the child welfare department.

The case came to notice when the child’s mother lodged a complaint. Following the investigation based on CCTV footage, the baby was located by the police, nearly a week after the man handed over the child to the couple who approached him with the offer.

According to the news agency, PTI, the parents of the baby live on a footpath and earned their livelihood taking up petty jobs or indulging in begging, police informed. Reportedly, the couple noticed the poor family living on the footpath for some days, and then, they decided to approach the man for the infant by offering Rs 70,000.

Meanwhile, a case has been registered under the provisions of the Juvenile Justice Act. The infant has been handed over to the government’s child welfare department, police said.
