Gujarat woman 'raped' by land owner, commits suicide

In yet another incident of crime against women brought to light from Gujarat’s Surendranagar district, a woman, a farm labourer by profession, was allegedly raped by landowner, the woman ended her own life on Tuesday.

The horrible incident occurred in Wadhwan taluka of Surendranagar district. The accused has been identified as Yuvrajsinh Parmar, who is the owner of 30 bigha of land.


According to a report in Indian Express, The land owner allegedly asked for sexual favours to the wife of a labourer who was working on the farm owned by the accused,

As the victim withstood his rape attempt, she was thrashed by the accused (Parmer) and threatened with life. The accused also thrashed her 3-year-old son. Following the crime, the accused ran away from the crime spot.

"The 30-year-old woman attempted suicide on the field itself. When her husband returned, the woman narrated her ordeal. The FIR was filed late Wednesday based on the complaint by woman's husband," the report quoted a cop as saying.

The victim was admitted to a hospital for treatment where she later succumbed. According to police, Parmer had hired the couple and was to give them 25 per cent share of the produce.

Furthermore, Police said the accused Parmar, a native of Ratanpur in Rajkot city, was sexually exploiting the woman for several days.
