After years of speculation, Daniel Craig’s return to the role of James Bond – and Danny Boyle’s appointment as director of the new 007 movie – have been confirmed.

The 25th Bond film will see Daniel Craig reprise his titular role for the fifth time, is expected to go on floors by December this year and will release by October 25, 2019 in the US.

Production will begin at the start of December 2018, with the film released in the UK on 25 October 2019 and in the US a fortnight later.

“We are delighted to announce that the exceptionally talented Danny Boyle will be directing Daniel Craig in his fifth outing as James Bond in the 25th instalment of the franchise,” said EON Productions’ Michael G Wilson and Barbara Broccoli, the custodians of the Bond movies, in a statement on Friday.

“We will begin shooting Bond 25 at Pinewood Studios in December with our partners at MGM and are thrilled that Universal will be our international distributor.”

“We’ve been expecting you… #Bond25, Daniel Craig’s 5th outing as 007, will be directed by Academy Award-winning Danny Boyle from an original screenplay by John Hodge. Production is set to begin on 3 Dec 2018. MGM will partner with Universal Pictures to release the film worldwide,” reads a tweet by the official handle of James Bond.

Danny Boyle has worked on Trainspotting also. He told the Associated Press, “We’re working on a script at the moment and we’ll see what happens. But it’s a great idea so hopefully it’ll work. I’d love to be able to tell you more but I’m not going to.”

This film will be Daniel Craig’s last outing as James Bond. He has previously starred in Casino Royale, Quantum of Solace, Skyfall and Spectre.

In a joint announcement Thursday, Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli said Universal Pictures will release the 25th installment of the superspy franchise internationally while MGM will handle the US release.
