Shillong Lajong, who lifted their second consecutive Shillong Premier League title last month, have begun their preparations for the new season of I-League.
Despite the club still awaiting the return of many first-team players from Indian Super League (ISL) duty, Lajong started their pre-season training at the city's Polo Ground under the watchful eyes of head coach Thangboi Singto on Tuesday, 1 December.
The new season of India's national football league will commence on 9 January, less than a week after the culmination of the SAFF Suzuki Cup, South Asia's premier international football tournament.
While quite a few I-League clubs have already started pre-season training, they will have to wait for a few more days before all the players return from ISL.
Lajong, who are without six of their first-team players because of the ongoing ISL season, are yet to confirm their foreign players for next season, but announced in a media briefing on Tuesday, 1 December, that confirmation of the same would come shortly.
On the other hand, the club also confirmed its plans to start a statewide grassroots program in Meghalaya from 5 December.
