National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) 2016 aspirants seeking admission to private medical and dental colleges in Maharashtra can now register with their preference forms.

Registrations will be held between 8-11 September, the Directorate of Medical Education and Research (DMER) has informed.

The Directorate has notified that the online submission of applications and the filling of preference forms can be done through the official website of the DMER.

However, aspirants and parents are confused about the latest developments in the medical admissions.

The Bombay High Court (HC) has stayed all admissions to private medical and dental colleges, dragging the issue to Supreme Court (SC) once again. A petition, filed by a Nashik-based private dental institute, sought the right to admit students on the merit and not domicile.

Candidates whose names have already appeared in the provisional merit lists of deemed institutes fear they may have to repeat the entire process

As per Maharashtra DMER rules, 85% seats are reserved for state students. The next hearing will take place on 14 September.

  1. The All-India merit list

  2. The merit list of medical aspirants with Maharashtra state domicile

The DMER notification states: "As per the interim order dated 7/9/2016 passed by Bombay High Court in Writ Petition no. 10158/2016 and other connected Writ Petitions, the Respondents (i.e. Competent Authority conducting Common Admission Process in the State of Maharashtra) have been directed to invite applications & preference forms from candidates, who have appeared for NEET - UG - 2016, on All India basis for seeking admission in private unaided colleges of medical & dental disciplines for the Academic Year 2016-17 .
