A 90-year old man identified Govind Ram Jethani was found living with his wife's maggot-infested, decomposing corpse in their residence in Kalkaji area of New Delhi on 11 October.

According to a Times of India report, the police found the body of his wife lying on the floor. The man was living with his wife's dead for four days. His wife had reportedly died of age but neighbours believe that she died of malnutrition.

The report added that Govind Ram Jethani was suffering severe malnutrition and his medical condition did not allow him to differentiate between the living and the dead.

The childless couple was apparently facing financial issues and was not keeping well for a very long time. It was the neigbours who informed police after Govind approached them saying that his wife was not responding to his calls.

"He had told me that his wife was not responding to his calls for the past few days. When I entered, there was a stench in the room. I saw a woman's body lying on the floor with the face down. There were maggots all over it," Govind's neigbour told Times of India.

After recovering his wife's dead body, the police handed Govind over to his nephew but had to be admitted to a private hospital after he stopped speaking by afternoon.

His wife's body was also handed over to his nephew for conducting the last rites. The police have not registered any case as yet.
