Incessant rain hit the Test on all previous four days and only 91.5 overs were completed, bad light and overcast weather also played a part in hindering the game. The fourth day was abandoned without a ball being bowled.

But the conditions improved on Sunday as Sri Lanka batted for 20 minutes to declare their first innings at 308/6 with Dhananjaya de Silva knocking an unbeaten 102.

Pakistan lost their opener Shan Masood for duck when he played a full toss delivery from pacer Kasun Rajitha straight into the hands of Dinesh Chandimal. While captain Azhar Ali scored 36 before he was caught off Lahiru Kumara.

The series is the first in Pakistan since the terror attack on the Sri Lanka team bus, which killed eight people in March 2009. leading to the suspension of international cricket in the country as overseas teams refused to visit.

The second Test will be played in Karachi, starting 19th December.
