Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) skipper KL Rahul played a brilliant knock on Monday in the Indian Premier League (IPL) clash against Sunrisers Hyderabad, scoring 68 runs off just 50 deliveries as the team finished with 169/7 after being put to bat first. And proceeding towards his knock, KL Rahul went past Virender Sehwag to join MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli in an elite list.

The 29-year-old batsman, who smashed 6 fours and a solitary six to revive the Super Giants from an early low in the innings to finish with a competitive total, scored his 28th fifty in the T20 tournament. It was also his 13th fifty-plus score as a skipper. The tally took KL Rahul past former Australian legend Adam Gilchrist to take the sixth spot in the list of most fifty-plus scores as a captain in IPL and fifth overall among Indians.

Ex-Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) skipper Virat Kohli leads the list with 40 such scores, followed by Gautam Gambhir (31), Rohit Sharma (23) and MS Dhoni (22). The only overseas skipper in the all-time top-5 list is David Warner with 27 such scores.

The knock was also Rahul’s 50th half century in the shortest format and with that record, he joined Kohli, Shikhar Dhawan, Suresh Raina and Rohit in a elusive list of Indian players.

KL Rahul has been one of the most prolific run scorer in IPL since becoming the captain in 2020 for Punjab Kings. He has amassed 1404 runs as a skipper in 30 matches in the tournament at 56.16 with 12 fifties and one century. No other captain has been able to amass even 1000 runs in the tournament during the period.
