Two names are closely associated in franchise cricket. MS Dhoni and Chennai Super Kings (CSK). In 2008, CSK secured MS Dhoni in the auctions and made him the skipper of the Chennai based franchise. The rest we can say is history.

Led by MS Dhoni, CSK have won three Indian Premier League titles as well as the Champions Trophy in 2010 and 2014. the former India skipper has featured for CSK in each and every season and won the IPL in 2010, 2011 and 2018.

Even during the 2021 edition, CSK was looking on course for another top three finish as they appeared to be an impressive side. Even MSD’s captaincy was applauded in the 14th season as he gave invaluable resources to players like Ravindra Jadeja, Ruturaj Gaikwad and many others.

With the auction occurring in 2022, CSK fan have started to make guesses about Dhoni’s place in the side and if he could play for another team. Former Australia spinner Brad Hogg denied that Dhoni would play for another team in the IPL. He said that Dhoni would be given a coaching role if he does not turn out as a player for CSK.

"MS Dhoni is not leaving @ChennaiIPL He is the Maharaja of the franchise. He will transition into a coaching role," Brad Hogg said.

It is unlikely that CSK would let go Dhoni. MSD has been a leading force for the Chennai based franchise and the team would like to retain the wisdom that Dhoni provides. He might not be at his best at the moment but he has made an invaluable contribution to CSK's success, especially with his leadership quality.

With IPL 2021 set to kick off in September, MS Dhoni would want to lead his side to another playoff spot while trying for their 4th title.
