Bank Holidays 2021 Update: Alert! Bank to remain closed in April; check list of holidays

Bank Holidays 2021: The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) released a notification for bank holidays in April for both private and public sector banks across the country. The banks will remain closed for 15 days, including second Saturdays and Sundays in the next month.

As per the notification, out of the banking holidays, the public and private banks will be closed for eight days due to festivals in April 2021.


Bank will remain shut on April 1 due to the closing of accounts. While on April 2, the banks will be closed due to Good Friday and also on April 4, which is a Sunday (weekly off).

The festivals that will be observed in April 2021 are Ram Navmi, Bihu, Good Friday, Babu Jagjivan Ram’s Birthday, Tamil Nadu year, Mahavir Jayanti, etc.

For hassle-free bank-related works, account holders in both private and public banks are advised to plan their bank activities as per the bank holiday calendar in April 2021.

However, users can make their transactions through online modes (mobile and internet banking).

1. April 2021- Odisha Day (Odisha)
2. 2 April 2021- Good Friday (Several states)
3. 6 April 2021- Mahavir Jayanti (Several states)
4. 13 April 2021- Ugadi/ Telugu New Year/ Bohag Bihu/ Gudi Padwa/ Vaisakh (several states)
5. 14 April 2021- Dr. Ambedkar Jayanti/ Emperor Ashoka’s birth anniversary/ Tamil New Year/ Maha Vishuba Sankranti/ Bohag Bihu/ Cheiraoba (several states)
6. 15 April 2021- Himachal Day (Himachal Pradesh)
7. 21 April 2021- Ram Navami/ Garia Puja
8. 25 April 2021- Mahavir Jayanti (Several states)

Bank Holidays on Sundays and Saturdays:

  • April 4 – Sunday
  • April 10 – Second Saturday
  • April 11 – Sunday
  • April 18 – Sunday
  • April 24 – Fourth Saturday
