‘Amazon Air’: Amazon launches its air cargo service in India

Amazon, the e-commerce giant, has launched company’s dedicated cargo fleet ‘Amazon Air’ in India on January 23. With the cargo fleet, Amazon aims to expand its operations and speedup deliveries across the country to provide a better experience for customers.

The launching ceremony for "Amazon Air" was held in Hyderabad today, and was launched by Telangana Industry and Commerce Minister KT Rama Rao.


With this launch, India has become the third region after the United States and Europe to have the air cargo service.

Amazon has collaborated with a Bengaluru based freight carrier, Quickjet Cargo Airline Private Ltd, for the service. The e-commerce company will use Boeing 737-800 planes to transport shipments to major cities like Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Delhi, and Mumbai.

"We are partnering with a third party carrier...Quikjet is the company through which we have leased the plane. They are operating the plane and they are maintaining it for us," said Akhil Saxena, Vice President- Customer Fulfillment (APAC, MENA & LATAM) & WW Customer Service. He also added that the planes are capable of carrying 20,000 shipments.

The Seattle-headquartered firm, which started the service in 2016 in the US, operates a network of over 110 jets that fly to over 70 locations worldwide.
