Varun Dhawan's Dishoom embarked on a decent start at the Box-Office as the film raked in Rs 11.05 crore on its opening day.
The collections should ideally have been better considering the genre and star-cast; however, the response to the theatrical trailer was not encouraging which had an impact on the opening day collections. Dishoom fared the best in Mumbai and Delhi. Its performance at mass circuits like CI, CP, and Rajasthan fell a bit short of Tiger Shroff's Baaghi.
The initial reviews and word of mouth are quite mixed but a jump in the collections is expected over the weekend. Dishoom will be benefitted by the upcoming two-week free run at the Box-Office and it would be interesting to see if it manages to breach past the collections of Baaghi (Rs 78 crore) in its long run.
Dishoom is the sixth highest opener of the year. The top six openers of 2016 are:
- Sultan: Rs 36.54 crore
- Fan: Rs 19.20 crore
- Housefull 3: Rs 15.21 crore
- Airlift: Rs 12.35 crore
- Baaghi: Rs 11.94 crore
- Dishoom: Rs 11.05 crore
The film's budget was around Rs 70 crore inclusive of print and publicity. Taking in account revenue from all sources, producer Sajid Nadiadwala should entail a fair amount of profit; however, theatrically, the film has to rake in around Rs 100 crore to emerge a clean hit.
