Maidaan to release in Feb

Bollywood actor Ajay Devgn, who enthralled the audience with his marvellous acting prowess in ‘Runway 34’, has announced the release date of his sports drama flick ‘Maidaan’. The movie is all set to hit the big screens on February 17, 2023.

‘Maidaan’ will narrate the story of the celebrated Indian football coach, former player, and manager of the Indian national team, Syed Abdul Rahim.

Ajay took to Twitter and wrote, "Experience the true story of an unknown hero, Syed Abdul Rahim who brought glory to India. #Maidaan releasing on 17th February, 2023.”

Notably, the makers of the 'Maidaan' announced to release the sports drama flick in June this year, however the film was delayed.

Helmed by Amit Ravindernath Sharma of the 'Badhai Ho' fame, 'Maidaan' also stars Gajraj Rao, Priyamani, and prominent Bengali actor Rudranil Ghosh. The movie is produced under the banner of Zee Studios, Boney Kapoor, Akash Chawla, and Arunava Joy Sengupta. Screenplay and dialogues are penned by Saiwyn Quadras and Ritesh Shah respectively.

Talking about the movie, 'Maidaan' is based on the golden years of Indian football. The ‘Omkara’ actor will portray Syed Abdul Rahim who served as coach and manager of Indian football team from 1950 until his death in 1963.

A lot of challenges were encountered while filming the sports drama during COVID-19. In 2020, when the pandemic was at its peak, producer Boney Kapoor had to dismantle the film set due to the lockdown imposed to curb the coronavirus.

In May 2021, the set of 'Maidaan' was destroyed by Cyclone Tauktae. The release date of the film has changed multiple times. Now it will finally release on February 17.
