Shooting for Aamir Khan's next film Dangal will begin in Ludhiana from 22 September 2015. The film, which is scheduled to release on Christmas 2016, will mark the return of Aamir Khan two years post his last release - much-loved PK directed by Rajkumar Hirani.

The film, which is a biopic of Haryanvi wrestler Mahavir Phogat, is an emotional journey of a father and his two daughters. While interacting with media at a press conference in Ludhiana, Khan said,

"Nitesh has written a wonderful story for Dangal. It is a very important topic in today's time. It highlights the discrimination that is meted out to the girl child in India. The best part about the script is that Nitesh has done it in a very entertaining manner. The heart of the story is emotional, but it has a lot to offer in terms of humor. Rajukumar Hirani has this unique way to tell a story where he tells something socially relevant but in a very entertaining manner. Similarly, Nitesh has written a very lovey script which is entertaining. The dialogues are very entertaining and each time I listen to the dialogues, I laugh a lot. I cry as well as laugh."

The actor also revealed that the demanding nature of Dangal's script motivated him to gain a lot of weight.

What is Dangal all about?

Dangal is based on the life of Haryanvi wrestler Mahavir Phogat who trained his two out of four daughters in wrestling and encouraged them to take up the same as a profession. The film is about his daughters' journey of winning medals at 2010 Commonwealth Games.

Directed by Nitesh Tiwari, Dangal also stars Sakshi Tanvar in a pivotal role.
